Degree Requirements for a Bachelor of General Studies

General Degree Requirements:

  1. The regular matriculation requirements of Indiana University Kokomo.
  2. The campus General Education requirements - found earlier in this bulletin.
  3. A minimum of 120 credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
  4. Completion of at leat 30 of the last 60 credit hours at Indiana University Kokomo.  (Self-acquired competency credit may not be counted toward this 30 credit hour minimum.)
  5. At least 30 of the required 120 credit hours must be in upper-divisioon course work.  Upper-division courses are numbers in the 300s and 400s.

Specific Degree Requirements:

(Note: The required areas are designed to provide the student with a broad exposure to the
humanities, social sciences and sciences. The electives permit students to explore other areas 
of interest and to tailor the degree to their individual needs.)

  1. 36 credit hours:
    • Twelve credit hours in social and behavioral sciences
    • Twelve credit hours in arts and humanities
    • Twelve credit hours in sciences and mathematics

    (Note: Credit hours required in each area must be taken in at least two academic disciplines.)

  2. 18 cr. - A minimum of 18 additional credit hours in one of the preceding areas with courses from at least two academic departments-concentration area.
  3. A grade of C - or better must be achieved in the three required areas and the concentration area to be counted toward the degree.
  4. 66 cr. - Electives (15 of the 66 hours must be course work within the Schools of Humanities, Social Sciences or Sciences).
