A grade of C or higher is required in A111 Electronics I, A112 Electronics II, A211 Electronics III, and A212 Electronics IV.

  • Z111 Introduction to Music Theory (3 cr.)

For those with sufficient musical background, T109 Rudiments of Music I (3 cr.) may be substituted for Z111, or T151 Music Theory and Literature I (3 cr.) may be substituted for both Z101 and Z111.

12 of the total 18 credit hours should be chosen from the following courses, or equivalent honors courses:

  • Up to 6 credits of secondary performance study. For students who choose the music concentration, only secondary performance study beyond that required by the concentration may be counted.
  • Other courses as approved by the chair of the Recording Arts Department and the director of undergraduate studies.
Area of Concentration

15 credit hours in one area. Choose from telecommunications, business, computer science, informatics, or music (performance study, composition, or electronic music). Another area may be substituted if approved by the chair of the Recording Arts Department and the director of undergraduate studies.

Natural and Mathematical Sciences

Required physics course: PHYS P105 Basic Physics of Sound (3 cr.)

Recommended additional course to complete the Natural and Mathematical Sciences requirement: CSCI A110 Introduction to Computers and Computing (3 cr.)

To Complete Degree

Free music or non-music electives as needed to bring the total credit hours to 120, excluding major ensemble and I400.
