In addition to completing the requirements for the degree, the College actively encourages its students to explore their interests and develop new skills by taking full advantage of the many opportunities available on the Bloomington campus. Each fall semester the College sponsors the Themester—a thematic program of courses, lectures, performances and other events that highlight an issue or theme best explored and illuminated by the multiple perspectives that a liberal arts education provides. Each semester, the College celebrates the exceptional academic performance of its students through a number of programs listed under "Academic Distinctions." A variety of innovative curricular and co-curricular initiatives are listed under "Academic Opportunities." Career development services and courses are described under "Walter Center for Career Achievement (ASCS)." "Opportunities Outside the College" lists a number of academic credentials and experiences that can supplement a student's primary program of study in the College.
