Vision Statement: To establish an organizational culture in which differences such as race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, and other physical abilities and qualities are not merely present, but where cultural identity is highly valued and barriers to full organizational participation in the environment are removed.

Mission Statement

The Mission of the Division of Diversity Affairs (DDA) through an emphasis on inclusion, diversity and respect, will enhance the cultural competence of the medical school community. It will foster the accomplishment of its tripartite mission through diversity programming in the areas of recruitment, retention and community service.

In keeping with IUSM’s pursuit of excellence in the fulfillment of our mission, the Division of Diversity Affairs, within the Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development (OFAPD), will encourage, enable, and empower all members of the IUSM community to positively contribute to and benefit from a diverse learning environment.

The Division of Diversity Affairs will:

  • Be a diversified entity providing a multiple-component, inter-related program of pre-professional advising, undergraduate, graduate and faculty recruitment and development.
  • Provide academic retention initiatives for currently enrolled underrepresented medical and graduate students.
  • Support and enhance the academic, educational, social, and cultural interests of the diverse faculty and student constituency at Indiana University School of Medicine.
  • Provide a safe and inviting environment for the IUSM constituency.
  • Be an advocate for multicultural perspectives.
